US Hearing Aid Sales Fall by 18% in 2020

According to Hearing Industries Association (HIA) statistics, total net hearing aid sales in 2020 reached 3.47 million units, a decrease of 18.0%, with the private/commercial sector experiencing a decrease of 14.2% and the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) a decrease of 34.0%. The study results, which the The International Campaign for Better Hearing announced in a press release, conclude that 74% of respondents from around the world with hearing loss have at some point been embarrassed, while 69% have felt anxious, 64% have experienced feeling socially isolated, 59% felt tired/drained, 62% suffered from anger or frustration, and 49% have even felt unsafe as a result of their hearing loss.

Applying the report’s same methodology to the United States, 14.6 million people in the USA live with an untreated, disabling hearing loss, with a cost of $133 billion each year. This amounts to $9,100 per person with an untreated disabling hearing loss.
