A 2018 survey by the Japan Hearing Instruments Manufacturers Association (JHIMA) shows that about 14% of people in Japan with hearing loss use hearing aids, the The Japan News by The Yomiuri Shimbum reported.
Japan had the lowest rate of hearing aid adoption as compared to other countries including Germany (37%), France (41%), and Britain (48%), according to EuroTrak 2018 data cited in the article. Public subsidies in Japan, “in principle,” do not cover hearing aids for what’s considered mild-moderate hearing impairments, according to The Japan News.
