Research in children treated for the brain tumor ependymoma finds severe hearing loss is associated with worse intellectual ability and highlights the need for hearing interventions.
The tool enables easy access to genetic and other molecular data from hundreds of technical research studies involving hearing function and the ear. The research portal called gene Expression Analysis Resource (gEAR) was unveiled in a study last month in “Nature Methods.”
Dr Amy Sapodin said the kidney and the ear are structurally, functionally, and biologically similar, so conditions that affect one may affect the other. Some of these issues can begin as early as in utero.
