The new pediatric line features second-generation AI sound processing, 4D user-intent sensors, and next-generation connectivity.

Oticon Inc has introduced Oticon Play SI, a pediatric hearing aid family featuring second-generation AI-powered sound processing, 4D user-intent sensors, and updated connectivity options. The technology is designed to support children with hearing loss in complex listening environments like classrooms and playgrounds.

AI-Powered Sound Processing and Sensor Technology

The Play SI line incorporates Oticon’s second-generation AI sound processing, which was trained with millions of sound scenes to provide clearer sound. According to the company, the technology offers noise suppression of up to 12 dB and an extended frequency bandwidth from 80 Hz to 10,000 Hz.

The hearing aids also use 4D user-intent sensors to understand and adapt to a child’s listening needs in real time. According to Oticon, recent data from Boys Town National Research Hospital for children and teens aged 12-18 showed that activating 4D Sensors improved sentence recognition for 50% of participants and reduced listening difficulty for 77% of participants.

“Oticon Play SI doesn’t just improve access to sound; it supports critical developmental milestones. For children, hearing is the foundation for language, learning, and social interaction,” says David Gordey, director of pediatric audiology and research at Oticon, in a release. “For teens and young adults, streaming is equally important. It allows them to stay connected socially, enjoy music, and access educational content without barriers. Oticon Play SI helps ensure children and teens can thrive in every aspect of life.”

Connectivity, Styles, and Durability

Oticon Play SI includes next-generation connectivity with Bluetooth LE Audio technology, enabling two-way audio streaming for hands-free calls and access to Auracast broadcasts via the Oticon Companion app. The devices are Made for iPhone and are also optimized for Android with Fast Pair on select devices. A recent study cited by the company found that 83% of tweens and teens prefer Bluetooth LE Audio connectivity over Bluetooth classic.

The product family is available in two models: a discreet miniRITE R style for tweens and teens, and a miniBTE R style with fitting levels 85 and 105 for smaller ears. The devices come in 12 color options and are built with an IP68-rating for water and dust protection and use allergen-free materials.

Charging and Accessories

The rechargeable hearing aids can provide a full day of use after one hour of charging. A 15-minute charge can provide up to four hours of power, while a 30-minute charge offers up to eight hours.

The Oticon Play SI is compatible with EduMic, Oticon’s remote microphone system for use in learning environments, which includes wind noise management for outdoor use.
