The new Livio AI hearing aid contains several firsts and is designed as a multi-functional device, or what Starkey is calling a “Healthable” hearing technology. In addition to hearing-related technology improvements, new features include fall-detection and inertial sensors, fitness and wellness tracking, a real-time language translator, and the ability to control the aid by just tapping it. The “ecosystem” that makes up the the new device is said to revolve around artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, cloud computing, embedded 3D motion sensors, telehealth, language translation, fall detection and alerts, and hearing aid accessories.

Walgreens and Starkey Collaborate on Walgreens Hearing; Unique Expansion Program for Current Practice Owners

Called Walgreens Hearing, the new outlets are unique to the marketplace because they are designed to create new business opportunities for existing dispensing offices to partner with Starkey and serve patients at Walgreens stores in their communities. Walgreens Hearing currently exist in two pilot stores that opened last month in the Minneapolis-St Paul market, with about six others opening in three other states, some by mid-April.

Starkey Ex-CFO Scott Nelson Pleads Guilty to Conspiracy

Former Starkey CFO Scott Nelson, who was fired from Starkey on September 9, 2015 with several prominent company executives including former President Jerry Ruzicka, has pleaded guilty to a single count of conspiracy in a plea agreement with the US attorney’s office. The criminal trial that includes Ruzicka and co-defendents is slated for January 19.
