The company’s first Switch: Vision Innovation Summit featured discussions on sensory wellness and the role of wearable technology in addressing both sight and hearing challenges.
From March 9-11 in Orlando, Fla, EssilorLuxottica hosted its Switch: Vision Innovation Summit for the Americas, gathering more than 1,000 professionals to examine the convergence of artificial intelligence, medical science, and wearable technology in vision care and its connection to overall health.
A session on vision and hearing solutions addressed the intersection of the two sensory fields. Actress Jane Lynch shared her personal experience with hearing challenges while wearing EssilorLuxottica’s Nuance Audio glasses, framing a discussion on sensory wellness and how wearable technology can help maintain quality of life. The session also explored how design and cultural relevance can speed the adoption of health innovations in wearable devices.
The summit covered several other key themes, including the growth of AI-powered smart eyewear and the emerging field of oculomics, which uses advanced imaging and AI to identify systemic diseases like diabetes and neurological conditions through the eye. Additional topics included advances in neuroscience for personalizing vision, myopia management, and new lens technologies for presbyopia.
“Our eyes have always been our window to the outside world. Now, through the field of oculomics, they are also increasingly becoming the gateway to our inside world – our overall health,” says Fabrizio Uguzzoni, president of professional solutions Americas at EssilorLuxottica, in a release. “We’re proud to be a catalyst for these important conversations with our ECP partners, shining a light on the innovations that will propel us into the future, expand the vision care industry into new frontiers and improve long term patient outcomes.”
The summit also featured clinical workshops and an experience center where attendees could interact with new diagnostic tools and wearable technologies.
A virtual webcast of the event will be available for industry professionals across the Americas on April 2. EssilorLuxottica will also host a Switch summit for EMEA and Asia on April 13-15 in Monaco.
