Donald J. Schum, PhD, vice-president of audiology for Oticon, Inc, presented the “Recipe for Hearing Sensing Success: How IFTTT is Making the IoT Even Better” at BioMed Boston on May 4, Oticon announced.  The conference brought together medtech innovators, industry pioneers, and thought leaders to explore critical areas within the medtech industry. In a featured session in the Healthcare IoT track, Schum examined the potential of the Internet of Things and the If This Then That (IFTTT) network in healthcare and discussed Oticon Opn™, the world’s first Internet-connected hearing aid, as an early application of connected medical devices that are transforming healthcare.

“With the launch of Oticon Opn, we are expanding the presence of hearing health and hearing technology in the increasingly sophisticated world of biomedical technology,” said Schum. “Cutting-edge wearable technology, like Opn, is disrupting expectations of the many ways healthcare consumers can benefit from the Internet of Things.”

More than 4,000 leaders in healthcare and medical device development participated in the annual BioMed conference, sponsored by the Massachusetts Medical Device Industry Council.
