Gene Therapy for Hearing Loss Reversal

Hearing loss has been linked to mutations in at least 100 different genes, but up to 16% of genetic hearing loss can be traced to just one gene, STRC, the second most common genetic cause. Jury Awards $22.5M to Plaintiff in 3M Military Earplug Case

A jury in Tallahassee, Florida awarded a plaintiff in the 3M lawsuit $22.5 million, the largest amount yet in a class action lawsuit against the Maplewood, Minn-based company, according to the Star Tribune. The lawsuit alleges that plaintiffs suffered hearing damage as a result of undisclosed design flaws in 3M’s dual-ended Combat Arms Earplugs, Version 2 (CAEv2).

ACI Alliance Supports Passage of 2021 ‘EDHI Act’

The House of Representatives passed “HR 5561, the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Act of 2021,” on a 410-17 vote. The bill would reauthorize the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) programs at the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the ACI Alliance said in its announcement.
