“The development of this conference follows a state-wide survey of audiologists to help determine which topics would provide the most relevant and compelling continuing education experience for our members,” says Dr Koehnke. “I am confident that the program planned will not only increase our members’ knowledge-base in rehabilitative audiology, but also to help them better serve their patients in an area of practice that they have identified a one of the most needed.”
The featured speaker is Robert Sweetow, PhD, professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of California San Francisco and former director of audiology at the UCSF Medical Audiology Clinic. Dr Sweetow is the co-developer of LACE (Listening and Communication Enhancement), an interactive adaptive computerized auditory training program. In 2008, he received the Distinguished Achievement Award from the American Academy of Audiology (AAA).
Dr Sweetow will analyze case studies with attendees and suggest aural rehabilitation methods to best suit various types of lifestyles and hearing impairments, according to Dr Koehnke. In addition, participants will have several opportunities to meet with exhibitors who are both manufacturers and stakeholders in rehabilitative audiology.
