The FCC-certified captioning app’s AI-powered TTS features — including a predictive response tool called AI Refine — earned the company the “Text to Speech Solution of the Year” recognition in the ninth annual AI Breakthrough Awards program.
InnoCaption, an Irvine, Calif.-based accessibility technology company, has been named winner of the “Text to Speech Solution of the Year” award in the ninth annual AI Breakthrough Awards program, conducted by AI Breakthrough, a market intelligence organization focused on the global AI sector.
The recognition centers on InnoCaption’s suite of text-to-speech (TTS) features added to its mobile captioning app, which is designed to make phone calls accessible for people with hearing loss or speech disabilities. The app is available on iOS, Android, and the web, and is free for eligible users through FCC certification and funding via the Telecommunications Relay Service fund.
AI Refine: Predictive Responses for Smoother Calls
A key feature behind the award is AI Refine, a predictive TTS capability that allows users to type a few words and receive complete, contextually appropriate responses that can be voiced aloud immediately or edited before sending. For example, typing “reschedule” might generate the phrase “I need to reschedule my appointment.” The feature is designed to reduce the cognitive and time burden of typing full sentences during live calls, keeping conversations more fluid.
Additional TTS features released by InnoCaption alongside AI Refine address other inefficiencies common to traditional TTS options, further expanding communication options for users who do not voice for themselves on calls.
“We are committed to breaking down communication barriers, and these new AI-powered text-to-speech features are the latest step in making every conversation more authentic and accessible for our users,” says Joseph Lee, founder and co-CEO of InnoCaption, in a release.
Industry Recognition
The AI Breakthrough Awards program received thousands of nominations from more than 20 countries this year, spanning categories including Agentic AI, Generative AI, Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing, and industry-specific AI applications.
“Everyone has the right to be heard and understood, and InnoCaption’s TTS solution gives individuals with speech disabilities the power to communicate seamlessly on phone calls,” says Steve Johansson, managing director of AI Breakthrough, in a release.
InnoCaption was established in 2007 and has operated as an accessible telecommunications provider since 2016. The company was among the earlier captioned phone service providers to offer fully automated AI captioning before expanding into TTS functionality.
