The Med-El Remote Care platform and companion HearCare App offer audiologists synchronous and asynchronous options to manage patient care virtually.

Med-El US has launched Remote Care, a telehealth platform for audiologists, and the companion HearCare App for cochlear implant recipients. The system is designed to allow hearing professionals and their patients to connect, share data, and manage care outside of the clinic.

Features for Clinicians and Patients

With the Remote Care platform, audiologists can request and review system checks, modify audio processor configurations using Maestro 11 software, and virtually share the updated settings. These configurations are sent directly to patients through the HearCare App.

The platform provides both synchronous and asynchronous telehealth options. Synchronous sessions allow for scheduled video calls with real-time data sharing and patient feedback, which can utilize billable insurance codes. Asynchronous sessions permit clinicians to review data and send updated configurations at their convenience, allowing patients to download the new settings when it is most suitable for them.

For patients and caregivers, the HearCare App allows them to run system checks, manage backups, and stay connected with their audiologist. Patients who receive replacement audio processors can also use the app’s backup feature to restore their settings. The system is compatible with several legacy Med-El implants and current audio processors.

Improving Clinic Efficiency and Access

The telehealth model is intended to help audiologists reserve in-clinic appointments for patients who require in-person care while providing virtual support for others.

“Remote Care and the HearCare App make it possible for audiologists to support patients with the same precision and confidence as an in-clinic visit, without the need for travel,” says Kensi Saia, AuD, PhD, product manager, Med-El US, in a release. “This flexibility is especially valuable for patients who live far from a clinic or have limited mobility, while also giving professionals more time to focus on those who truly need in-person care. It’s a win-win for efficiency and patient outcomes.”

The Remote Care platform and HearCare App are available at no charge.

Both are compatible with PulsarCI100, Sonata, Med-El Concert, Synchrony, and Synchrony 2 implants used in combination with a Sonnet 3, Sonnet 3 EAS, Sonnet 2, Sonnet 2 EAS, or Rondo 3 audio processor.
