Varta Microbattery has unveiled a new tool-free, child-resistant packaging design for its hearing aid batteries, offering a simpler solution for adult users frustrated by existing child-safe formats.
Varta Microbattery has introduced a new hearing aid battery packaging that eliminates the need for scissors or tools to open, addressing a persistent pain point for hearing aid wearers in the US market.
The new design uses a push-through principle — users simply press the battery through the pack — while still meeting the latest applicable US standards for button and coin cells. The packaging is patent pending and will gradually replace the company’s current child-resistant packaging across its product range.
“With our new tool-free packaging, we make every day handling significantly easier for hearing aid wearers — while maintaining the highest safety standards,” says Torsten Schmerer, managing director of Varta Microbattery, in a release. “The demand for simpler, more convenient solutions has been clearly expressed by consumers in the US market.”
The packaging retains a familiar design aesthetic and includes handling instructions on the back panel. It is available in 6-cell and 8-cell formats and offered in both standard and TFT versions.
The announcement was made at the AAA 2026 Annual Convention in San Antonio, Texas — one of audiology’s largest annual gatherings — signaling VARTA’s intent to build momentum for the new format among US hearing care professionals and dispensers.
