Oticon, Somerset, NJ, has announced that in keeping with the company’s commitment to knowledge-sharing events that benefit hearing care professionals and their patients, a team of Oticon audiologists and researchers will contribute their expertise to a variety of education sessions and workshops at AudiologyNOW! AAA 2015 Conference. Oticon announced which sessions its team members will be participating in, with the aim of engaging with the more than 6,000 audiologists expected to attend this year’s conference on topics that focus on hearing science, clinical practice, and technology.
“AudiologyNOW! provides an exciting forum to reach thousands of hearing care professionals with new insights, research and technology in an atmosphere that fosters interaction and collaboration,” Oticon President Peer Lauritsen said in the announcement. “Oticon is proud to join with subject experts and researchers from around the world to empower hearing care professionals with the knowledge and tools they need to continue to put the needs of people first.”
Oticon will be offering a series of four 15-minute mini-education sessions at the Oticon Booth (#411) throughout the AAA conference. These sessions will enable conference participants to earn continuing education credits (0.1 CEU). Audiology Within Modern Hearing Instruments explores the principles and technologies that support the brain in complex listening environments and compensate for peripheral hearing loss. Personalization, Expanded Dimensions of Optimizing for Each Individual looks at a unique fitting process that uses more of each individual’s residual capabilities, maximizing patient benefit and satisfaction. BrainHearing for Consumers: Effective Counseling equips practitioners to help patients see that Hearing Care is Health Care and better appreciate the value of the practitioner in the process. In a session on Oticon Tinnitus SoundSupport, participants will discover a new ear-level combination device that offers an array of options for sound therapy and is the first to offer popular ocean sounds.
Douglas Beck, AuD, Board Certified, F-AAA, Oticon’s director of professional relations will be featured in two educational sessions. In the Learning Lab: Tinnitus and Sound Sensitivity (Wednesday, March 25 8:30AM – 4:45PM, Room 006C, CEU: 0.7), Dr Beck will present contemporary peer-reviewed literature from 2008 to 2015 and offer insights into new developments in the understanding of tinnitus and its implications on patient management. As the moderator for the Featured Session: Issues, Advances and Considerations in Cognitive Amplification (Thursday, March 26, Room 217A, CEU: 0.3), Dr Beck will lead a discussion of perspectives, insights, advances, and applications from cognitive sciences to audiology and hearing aid amplification. Expert presenters will explore cognition and auditory perception and potential and pragmatic applications for treatment of hearing loss with hearing devices.
Thomas Behrens, MSc, Oticon’s head of the Centre for Applied Audiology Research, will join researchers from the Cleveland Clinic to present a Poster Session: Effects of Time of Day and Cognitive Load on Aided Performance (Friday, March 27, 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM). The session will review the results of a recent study on fatigue and cognitive effort, and aided listening.
