Naerum, Denmark — Ida Institute has launched the first e-learning courses through its new e-Learning Laboratory. The first e-learning module focuses on Ida’s customer motivation tools and features active engagement and reflection, the hallmarks of the Institute’s proprietary learning approach.

Lise Lotte Bundesen, managing director, said in the press announcement, “Through the Ida e-Learning Laboratory, we aim to expand the reach of Ida learning and tools to audiologists, speech therapy specialists, and others working in the field of hearing health care worldwide, and thus continue to contribute to a paradigm shift to more patient-centered care.”

The motivation tools e-learning course is called “The Line, The Box and The Circle,” and is available free of charge at idainstitute.com. The module encourages practitioners to call upon prior knowledge, challenge current understanding, and reflect on their own patterns of behavior.

Animated instructors guide e-learners through a series of active learning experiences, including virtual client consultations, in life-like clinical settings. Ethnographic videos, mirror exercises, and reflective journaling provide an opportunity for practitioners to experience the Institute’s motivation tools in a context that enables them to reflect on their own patterns of behavior and facilitate desired patient-centered changes in their clinical routines.

As a final step in the learning process, the e-learner develops a personal action plan, which will be incorporated into each of the e-learning modules offered through the e-Learning Laboratory.

“Managing goals can benefit all areas of clinical practice,” explained Bundesen. “Creating a personal action plan enables practitioners to identify precisely how they can best apply the learning from each course, clarifying areas in which patient-centered care can improve day-to-day patient encounters.”

E-learners can take the course at times that best suit their schedules and do not need to complete the course in one sitting. The Institute is in the process of securing educational units approval from certification organizations in various countries. For now, American e-learners can earn 0.2 continuing education units (CEUs), approved by the American Academy of Audiology. The course has also been approved by the British Academy of Audiology, so British e-learners can earn 2 CPD points (Continuous Professional Development points) upon completion.

Ida membership is required to access “The Line, The Box and The Circle” e-learning module. Membership is free at www.idainstitute.com and open to hearing and health care professionals and all others interested in the human dynamics of hearing loss.

The Institute plans to continue to expand the course offerings available through the e-Learning Laboratory. Modules will focus on sharing different aspects of Ida’s philosophy and tools, and will reflect Ida’s unique approach to learning.
