ZPower, a Camarillo, Calif-based developer of rechargeable, silver-zinc microbatteries, announced the promotion of Herb Weigel to Chief Operating Officer (COO). Weigel, who has been with ZPower since 2005, will now oversee the daily operations of the company as it prepares for a second growth phase and increased production to meet market demand.
Prior to this appointment, Weigel served as ZPower’s Senior Vice President of Operations and Engineering. In this capacity, he helped lead ZPower’s transition from a research and development firm into a fully operating manufacturing company with the ability to support multiple customers in the hearing aid, miniature consumer electronics, and medical device industries, according to the company’s announcement. Leading a team of engineers, operations and production specialists, Weigel’s leadership has been instrumental in establishing protocols and oversight for the manufacture of high-volume, low-mix button cell batteries, and low-volume, high-mix rechargeable systems for hearing aids.
In his new role, he will expand his operational responsibilities, while also rounding out the newly restructured C-level executive leadership team, joining newly appointed Chief Commercial Officer Anson Martin, Chief Financial Officer Dennis Dugan, and President and CEO Ross Dueber.
“We’re thrilled that Herb accepted the position as ZPower’s Chief Operating Officer,” said Dueber. “He understands our company and products better than anyone and has the passion, drive, and experience necessary to help us grow to meet our goal of being the global leader in miniature rechargeable battery technology.”
