The longtime Hearing Review editorial advisory board member is recognized for his extensive contributions to the profession.

The American Academy of Audiology (AAA) has named Douglas L. Beck, AuD, a longtime member of The Hearing Review editorial advisory board, as a recipient of the 2026 AAA Excellence in Audiology Award.

The award recognizes an individual with more than 10 years of experience who has demonstrated substantial achievements in at least two of the following areas: clinical excellence, teaching, or mentoring; research; service to the profession; and/or social media influence. Nominees must be members of the AAA and hold an AuD and/or PhD.

With a career of over four decades, Dr Beck has contributed to the audiology profession as a clinician, educator, researcher, and mentor. He has published extensively in scholarly journals, developed educational content, and utilized digital platforms like websites and podcasts to disseminate audiology knowledge. Dr Beck continues to lecture and publish following his semi-retirement in 2023.

Beck says he is most proud of “pushing forward audiology” through his involvement in advocating for cochlear implants before they were FDA approved, the AuD movement, intraoperative cranial nerve monitoring, cognition and cognitive screening, and advancements in over-the-counter hearing aids.
