Washington, DC — It’s A Noisy Planet, a public awareness initiative from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), has released "Keeping Noise Down on the Farm." The 3-minute video is meant to teach farm families about hearing loss protection from common loud farm sounds.

To make the point, Noisy Planet visited the Mountain View Farm in Purcellville, Va, to show how common sounds, such as a squealing pig, can affect the hearing of those who work and live on a farm.

Although a farm may appear quiet, animal sounds and machinery, such as tractors and combines, can all contribute to hearing loss for workers and farm family members who do not use proper hearing protection.

The video was published on YouTube and can easily be shared on the farming community’s social networks.
