The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) announced the release of new polling results that reveal a disconnect between the high value that Americans say they place on their hearing and their low willingness to be treated for any hearing loss. The findings are being made public in tandem with the launch of a new public service announcement (PSA) campaign—Act Now on Hearing—as the nation recognizes Better Hearing & Speech Month this May.
Poll respondents reported that parents are waiting too long—years, in some cases—before acting on early warning signs that their children may have communication disorders. By a wide margin, lack of awareness of the warning signs was cited as the leading barrier to overcome.
Together, with the local aid organization Commissioned Believers Deaf Ministry (CBDM), the Swiss Hear the World Foundation gives hearing impaired children and their families assistance by providing audiological care and speech therapy.
