Sensaphonics Hearing Conservation, Chicago, now furnishes immediate availability of field-replaceable cables for its ProPhonic 2X-S and 2MAX dual-driver custom earphones. The new cable system creates the extra margin of security touring artists require, says the company.
Michael Santucci, AuD, the company’s president, said in a statement released by the company that the cable assembly is the most vulnerable part of any earphone. By converting to a field-replaceable design, users of the company’s devices will have greater assurance that they will never have to do a show without their earphones, he added.
Designed by Sensaphonics Japan, the new cables are a tour grade, dual-conductor design, featuring a memory-wire insert at the earpiece end and a split adjuster (zipper) to ensure a secure fit behind the head, says the company. Users may specify matte silver or black, in lengths of 52 or 60 inches.
The new cable is secured to each earpiece with a nylon screw, eliminating any chance of it being accidentally pulled out, says the company. Santucci said that offering a field-replaceable cable for the company’s soft silicone earpieces was always a goal—but that a friction-based system was viewed as a poor compromise. Sensaphonics developed this approach for its 3-D Active Ambient earphones, and user response was so positive the company decided to develop a similar version for the ProPhonic 2X-S and 2MAX, he added.
The soft-gel silicone custom earphones provide distinct performance and reliability advantages, including long-wearing comfort and superior sound isolation, according to the company. The silicone acts as a shock absorber to protect the earphone electronics, and the medical-grade silicone used will not crack, shrink, fade, or degrade, says the company.
The new field-replaceable cables are now in production, and are included as standard on all new ProPhonic 2X-S and 2MAX earphones; pricing remains unchanged. The original integrated cable and breakaway cable assemblies will remain available upon request, says the company.
Sensaphonics Hearing Conservation designs and manufactures custom-fitted earphones to achieve safe, high-resolution, audio in mission-critical applications.
