The Starkey Hearing Foundation, a charitable organization known worldwide for its work of providing children in need with the tools to hear, is hosting its “So the World May Hear” Awards Gala on Saturday, June 17, 2006, in St. Paul, Minn. The star-studded extravaganza raises money to support the Foundation and its mission of promoting hearing health awareness, providing hearing aids for the under privileged, and supporting hearing research and education.

This year, “The Tonight Show” host Jay Leno, Grammy Award-winning musicians John Mellencamp, Petula Clark, and Dionne Warwick, and dozens of other well-known personalities, including Marie Osmond, Carl Carlton, Freda Payne, Gary Mule Deer, and Kathy Sledge, will lend their time and talents to the sixth annual gala.

In addition to celebrity performances and participation, eight exemplary individuals will be honored throughout the evening for their humanitarian contributions, including racing legends Richard Petty, Johnny Rutherford, Sir Jackie Stewart, and Al Unser, Sr, tennis legend Billie Jean King, baseball Hall of Famers Harmon Killebrew and Willie Mays, and Twin Cities businessman and philanthropist Glen Taylor.
The event will be held at St. Paul’s RiverCentre, beginning with a cocktail reception and silent auction at 5:30 pm. Dinner, entertainment, and a live auction will begin at 6:30 pm.
