St. Louis — Organizers of the Early Hearing Detection & Intervention (EHDI) Meeting have agreed to meet with members of Audism Free America (AFA) before EHDI’s 11th annual conference, set for March 5, 2012, in St. Louis, Mo.
AFA describes itself as a “grassroots deaf activist organization in the United States, which advocates for deaf American rights, cultural resurgence, and seeks primarily to challenge the ideological foundations of audism in America.”
AFA recently published five demands, available in American Sign Language and English on this website. Among their demands is that "EHDI hire deaf people who use and support ASL/deaf culture and place them in leadership roles at national and state levels."
