Lake Oswego, Ore — Willoughby Hearing Aid Centers announced that it has been voted the Oregon winner of the Better Business Bureau’s 2011 Business of the Year Torch Awards.

BBB’s Business of the Year Torch Awards honor local businesses of high integrity. Businesses were nominated by the public for demonstrating exemplary business practices. Willoughby Hearing Aid Centers in Portland was selected after judges reviewed finalists’ entries.

"We deeply understand that we are in the people business," said Scott Austin (pictured, right), president of Willoughby Hearing Aid Centers. "Our focus is, and will always be, about helping, serving, and caring for our patients. It is the main reason our doors have remained open since 1949."

BBB award judges scored business finalists on community involvement, customer service, and innovative business practices. All award judges are third party volunteers from various community organizations.

One awards judge describes Scott Austin as "hands on," citing efforts with schools for the deaf and outstanding customer service. Austin is also notable in the hearing industry as a former president of the International Hearing Society (IHS).

Willoughby Hearing Aid Centers operates eight facilities in Oregon and Washington.
