Hunn attributes the increase to several factors: with the increase in videoconferencing calls as a substitute for in-person meetings, people may be more conscious of their appearance and may prefer the streamlined look of wireless earbuds to wired headphones. Additionally, as Hunn points out, the increase in videoconferencing has highlighted the limitations of laptop microphones and the inability to move freely around the room with wired headphones.

Given these preferences, it’s likely that “for the foreseeable future, the demand for hearables is likely to exceed production capability,” with smaller companies potentially suffering longer lead times for their products.
