EarQ and NFLPA launch scholarshipRepresentatives from EarQ will join the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) Professional Athletes Foundation (PAF) during pre-game activities on February 7, 2016 in San Francisco, Calif, to launch a new scholarship program for students overcoming hearing loss, as well as to further their joint commitment to providing NFLPA members with hearing healthcare services.

EarQ announced that its goal is to bring hearing loss awareness to new audiences and also help support young people who are changing the face of hearing loss in their communities.

EarQ and representatives of the PAF are launching a new student scholarship program at the PAF’s Smocks and Jocks event in the Fisherman’s Wharf district of San Francisco. The program will present two $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors nationwide who refuse to let their hearing loss keep them from excelling as student athletes or pursuing their dreams.

“This is a very exciting time for our organization and partnership with the PAF,” said Clifford Carey, vice president of communications for EarQ. “Over the past five years, we’ve collaborated on landmark initiatives, such as our hearing loss research program, to help improve former players’ quality of life, but this new scholarship program will allow us to expand our educational efforts and help inspire a new generation of amazing athletes.”

Since 2011, EarQ has been a member discount program provider for the PAF. Through this program and a hearing research program, EarQ is working to better understand the connection between hearing loss and contact sports such as professional football and identifying what steps can be taken to improve players’ overall health.

The National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) is a non-profit, professional sports union that protects the best interests and welfare of all NFL players. Established in 1956, the NFLPA has a long history of assuring proper recognition and representation of players’ interests.

Scholarship applicants should submit a written essay to share their personal experiences with hearing loss, addressing it with appropriate technology (if applicable), how it has impacted their efforts in the classroom and in their chosen sports, and how they would utilize the scholarship funds to help them achieve their life goals.
