New York — The House Research Institute (HRI) (formerly known as the House Ear Institute) has launched a video essay contest as part of its "Sound Rules! Sound & Hearing Celebration Events" for teens.

Contest prizes include a custom electric guitar signed by Paul Stanley of the rock band KISS and other items.

The "Sound Choice Video Essay Contest" encourages teens to visit the EarBud Web site to learn about healthy hearing. Teens can then submit video essays via YouTube, describing the importance of maintaining healthy hearing practices.

The Sound Rules! Sound & Hearing Celebration Events will occur at the Directors Guild of America (DGA) Theater New York on May 4, 2011 and Los Angeles on May 12.

Between now and April 30, teens can submit their videos on the SoundRules.org Web site. A selection of the videos will appear on the Web site prior to the event, and winning entries will be eligible for prizes that include a custom electric guitar signed by Paul Stanley of the rock band KISS, a special VIP package to see pop star Rihanna in concert, a pair of Sennheiser noise-cancellation headphones, and many other prizes.

The winning video will be personally introduced by Stanley as part of the Sound Rules events.

Official contest rules can be downloaded on the SoundRules.org Web site.
