William Demant Holding—parent company of Oticon, Sonic, and Bernafon—said it would start producing cheaper, over-the-counter hearing aids if customer demand increases after passage of the Over-the-Counter Hearing Aid Act, Reuters reported. According to the Reuters article, shares of William Demant dropped after the US Senate voted to approve the 2017 FDA Reauthorization Act, which the Over-the-Counter Hearing Aid Act is part of.

North America and Europe are William Demant’s largest markets, Reuters said.
