Oticon Medical announced the fifth annual Good Vibrations Day campaign, a month-long initiative dedicated to raising awareness about bone anchored hearing. This campaign features various social media posts highlighting the cause, along with celebrations in Oticon Medical offices worldwide. The campaign will culminate on Good Vibrations Day, celebrated on May 3.

Campaign Overview

Good Vibrations Day is an inclusive, non-branded campaign aimed at educating the public about bone conduction as a highly effective hearing treatment for individuals with conductive, mixed, or single-sided hearing losses. All bone conduction device manufacturers, audiology professionals, and wearers are encouraged to join in this global initiative to highlight and celebrate the benefits of this treatment option.

Understanding Bone Conduction

Bone anchored hearing systems address hearing loss by transmitting sound to the cochlea (inner ear), independently of the function of the ear canal and middle ear, through direct bone conduction. These vibrations are then processed by the brain as sound.

Why May 3?

The campaign culminates on May 3 to honor the birthday of Per-Ingvar Brånemark, the esteemed Swedish physician and research professor renowned as the father of osseointegration and the godfather of bone anchored hearing. His pioneering discoveries paved the way for the development of modern bone conduction hearing devices.

Charitable Challenge

This year, Oticon Medical US is asking Facebook followers to share their stories as part of a Charitable Challenge giveaway based on the company’s tagline, Because Sound Matters. For every 50 responses received in the comments of the Facebook post “Why Sound Matters to Me?” Oticon Medical will donate a Ponto bone anchored hearing processor to a person in need without insurance or other means to afford it. For every 100 responses, two people in need will receive donated processors.

A Global Celebration

Throughout the month of April, Oticon Medical invites all bone conduction device manufacturers, wearers, parents and caregivers, and hearing care professionals to join in celebrating Good Vibrations Day. Activities may include sharing experiences, information, multimedia content from wearers, and more across various social media platforms.

“As we launch the Good Vibrations Day campaign,” says René Govaerts, general manager at Oticon Medical, “our dedication to the importance of sound remains unwavering. This initiative serves as a significant opportunity to raise awareness about the remarkable benefits of bone conduction. Given that many people around the world are still unaware of bone anchored hearing systems as a viable solution for their hearing loss, it is imperative that we work to change this. Oticon Medical remains committed to advancing our collaborative efforts with other manufacturers, hearing care professionals, and current wearers to ensure that the transformative capability of bone conduction reaches all those in need.”

Good Vibrations posts, stories, reels, etc., can be shared by all using the #GoodVibrations and #BoneAnchoredHearing hashtags. They can also be viewed and shared via Oticon Medical’s Facebook pages.
