Colorado’s General Assembly recently passed a full coverage children’s hearing aid insurance mandate.  That bill has just been signed by Gov. Bill Ritter and will come into effect January 1, 2009.  The new law calls for health insurers to provide coverage for two hearing aids once every five years, including all accompanying "service and supplies" for Coloradans under the age of 18.

With Gov. Ritter’s signature, Colorado becomes the eleventh state to mandate some form of insurance coverage for hearing aids.  Similar bills are making progress in California, Delaware, Illinois, New Jersey, and Wisconsin.  A complete list of mandates is posted in the Members’ Government Relations section of www.hearing.org.
