2006-05-23 Seventh-Grader Names New Company Mascot Gabriela Santos, a seventh-grader at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind (FSDB) in St. Augustine, received an award from Audina® Hearing Instruments Inc, Longwood, Fla, for her winning entry in a competition to name Audina’s new company mascot, an 8-foot flamingo. The flamingo, now known as “Pinkie,” and Audina Executive Vice President Frank Robilotta recently visited the school to present Gabriela with her award, during a student assembly. Gabriela received an iPod Nano with accessories and a certificate of appreciation from Pinkie during the student assembly presentation. Robilotta presented a check from Audina to FSDB Deaf Department Principal Hugh Lewis and FSDB President Elmer Dillingham to purchase needed items from the school’s “Wish List.” The month-long “Name the Flamingo” contest, which was open to all students of the school, invited students to submit names for the bright pink flamingo that will travel around the United States, attending hearing industry conventions and conferences representing Audina. Audina employees voted on the entries and selected the final name for the flamingo. Audina and FSDB plan to maintain an ongoing relationship to assist with the unique educational opportunities provided by the school.
