This HR Tech Topic article addresses issues related to deep canal hearing aid fittings as they pertained to the mid-1990s introduction of the Philips Hearing Instruments XP Peritympanic deep-canal hearing aid. Part 1 addresses the challenges typically associated with deep canal fittings, including the ear impression, comfort issues, occlusion, feedback, cerumen control, ear canal pressure/equalization issues, and hearing aid retention. Part 2 looks at Philips Hearing Instruments Bony Seal Tip concept for solving some of these fitting challenges.
