According to the American Academy of Audiology (AAA), October is National Audiology Awareness Month and National Protect Your Hearing Month. AAA aims to increase public awareness of audiology and the importance of hearing protection.

More than 36 million American adults have some degree of hearing loss and over half of them are younger than age 65, says a statement from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), Bethesda, Md.

Recently, NIDCD launched a national public education campaign called It’s a Noisy Planet. Protect Their Hearing. Noisy Planet targets parents and tweens, kids between the ages of 8 and 12, with messages about the causes and prevention of noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL).
