With 45 percent of stations reporting to a survey by A.C. Nielsen, the Better Hearing Institute’s documentary “Spotlight on Hearing Loss,” has the following confirmed showings its first three months of airing:
146 of 348 stations showed it at least once
1,108 total airings
5,200,000 audience size (audience known in only 90% of markets)
This audit represents the combined first three months audit of BHI’s 9.5-minute documentary September-November 2006 and the 6.5-minute documentary for the period December 2006 through February 2007. The shorter documentary represented 82 percent of the total airings.
Some of the notable markets in which the documentary has aired are as follows: Brooklyn, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Detroit, Orlando, Palm Beach, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Providence, Nashville, Louisville, Salt Lake City, Albuquerque, Las Vegas, Dayton, Richmond, Tulsa, Charlotte, Hartford and Little Rock.
Hearing health professional whose local PBS station may not have aired the documentary might contact the station personnel and urge them to show this interstitial filler educational program as a public service.
