HearPlugz-DF multifunctional, dual-filtered hearing protectors, which help users hear speech and communication better while engaged in excessive noise or loud sounds says EAR Inc, Boulder, Colo, have won the Occupational Health & Safety magazine new product of the year award in the hearing protection category.

The ear plugs are designed with variable attenuators; as sound levels increase, so does the sound suppression, according to the company.

The Occupational Health & Safety New Product of the Year Award honors manufacturers whose products are considered to be particularly noteworthy in their ability to improve workplace safety, says the magazine’s Web site. Forty entries were received in the inaugural year of this contest. Twelve winners were honored in 11 award categories.

According to the military, law enforcement, sportsmen, musicians, and industrial groups, many standard hearing protectors go unused because they minimize one’s ability to hear critical sounds needed for communications and environmental awareness, says EAR Inc.

Breathable, moisture-resistant dual filters improve sound quality when the ear is overloaded with noise (continuous or impact), and musicians and music lovers who attend loud concerts or those who work where loud music is played appreciate the acoustical response, says the company.

The plugs are available in two colors and three sizes and come with a removable cord. The exterior filter can be removed if less attenuation is desired, or to connect radio communications. The company says the plugs have been successfully used in law enforcement, military, shooting, hunting, music, motorcycling, aircraft, and industrial settings.

The ear plugs are also available in custom-fit versions when ear impressions are sent to EAR Inc or one of its authorized providers.
