A donation from Oticon Pediatrics, Somerset, NJ, to Hands & Voices, Boulder, Colo, a nationwide parent-driven organization that serves families with children from birth to age 21 who are deaf or hard of hearing, will support the group’s national training and education outreach program, according to a statement released by the company.
Oticon President Peer Lauritsen said in the statement that the company’s commitment to "People First" always includes a dedicated focus on the needs of children with hearing loss. “We know that advanced technology is only a part of the solution when children are concerned," he said. "We appreciate the value of support tools that give people the help they need to ensure that the formative years of the children in their care are as fruitful and as rewarding as possible.”
Hands & Voices has earmarked the donation to further the training and education of the group’s state and regional Guide By Your Side programs, with an emphasis on giving accurate and timely information and emotional support at a parent-to-parent level. Leeanne Seaver, MA, executive director of Hands & Voices, said in the statement that the organization appreciates the company’s willingness teach and to learn from the families and professionals using their products. “This kind of ‘roll up our sleeves’ collaboration makes us all more effective!" she said.
