This new technology may be useful for people with hearing loss who have dropped their landline service to save money, but who have difficulty hearing on cellphones. The cordless BT914 allows users to make calls with or without a landline connection. The cordless BT914 features Cellphone at Home, a Bluetooth-powered technology enabling calls to be made through a landline or wireless service.

Designed by Clarity, a division of Plantronics that is focused on creating smart communication solutions for seniors, the BT914 amplifies incoming sounds up to 40 decibels and is designed specifically to address hearing and vision challenges.

“Some of our customers have landline service while others only have cellphone service, so it was important for us to offer a new amplified home phone that everyone with hearing loss can use,” said Carsten Trads, president of Clarity. “For someone with hearing loss who has been struggling to hear on their cellphone, this is a perfect complement. With no extra monthly charge, you can now have clear and understandable conversations. Whether you have landline or wireless service, the BT914 is designed for your unique hearing needs and will dramatically improve phone conversations.”

According to a report from the company, a simple setup process will connect the Cellphone at Home™ technology to the BT914 and the existing cellphone service, allowing users to make or receive calls on the cordless phone.  BT914 users can also download up to 1,000 contacts from their cellphone.

The BT914, which is hearing aid compatible, includes a large, easy-to-use keypad and an easy-to-read Caller ID display that flashes as a visual ringer. It has adjustable tone control that can be adjusted for different degrees of hearing loss, a digital answering machine in its base, and a loud and clear speakerphone in its handset. For users that need multiple phones throughout their house, the BT914 is expandable with up to five handsets.
