Summary:
Interacoustics has released a major update to its VisualEyes VNG system, enhancing diagnostic precision and rehabilitation tracking for dizziness and balance disorders with new functional and objective assessments.
Key Takeaways:
- Expanded Testing Capabilities: New assessments like fvHIT, cervical-ocular tests, and a 30-second self-paced saccade test improve accuracy in identifying vestibular and central dysfunctions.
- Enhanced Clinical Insight: The update bridges diagnostics and rehabilitation by offering data-driven insights into how patients function in real-life scenarios.
- Advanced Research Tools: Research Module users gain added control and customization with new blinking fixation lights and parameter settings for caloric and optokinetic tests.
Interacoustics is rolling out an update to its popular VisualEyes VNG system. The update adds new tests and features that help bridge the gap between diagnostics and rehabilitation success for patients experiencing dizziness or balance issues.
The VisualEyes VNG update features new, data-driven assessments to help clinicians understand how patients function in daily activities. They produce objective data to use in identifying the root cause of a patient’s dysfunction, establishing a clear starting point for rehabilitation, and enabling precise monitoring and optimization of progress throughout recovery.
New tests include:
- Functional Vision Head Impulse Test (fvHIT) – produces objective, functional assessment of lateral, LARP, and RALP semicircular canal planes to identify location of vestibular-ocular reflex (VOR) weakness and how the patient functionally performs in daily activities.
- Cervical-Ocular tests (Cervical Gaze and Smooth Pursuit Neck Torsion) – improves diagnostics for patients with neck pain and dizziness by evaluating eye movements/symptoms in different head positions for diagnostic accuracy.
- Self-Paced Saccade test – a quick, accurate oculomotor test that provides evidence of central vestibular dysfunction in just 30 seconds.
Elizabeth Fuemmeler, clinical product manager at Interacoustics, says, “Ultimately, these new features allow us to better understand the site of origin and degree of dysfunction so we can make accurate recommendations for our patient to improve and get back to their daily life.”
For Research Module users, the new blinking fixation light and parameter options for the caloric and optokinetic tests will provide even more opportunities to collect and analyze clinical data.
The VisualEyes platform includes VNG, vHIT, rotary chair testing, and functional VOR testing in one integrated system. With the new features and functionality, VisualEyes continues to advance the software beyond traditional VNG tests.
