SoundCure Inc is cosponsoring the first fundraiser for The Tinnitus Foundation, a nonprofit established in Phoenix, Ariz, to fund research for the debilitating condition of tinnitus, or ringing in the ears.

The Tinnitus Foundation fundraiser takes place Saturday, May 11, 2013, with a 5K run at the Phoenix Steele Indian School Park, and ending at Martini Ranch in Scottsdale with top musical and comedic entertainers.

The Tinnitus Foundation was founded by Tempe audiologist Dr Allen Rohe, who seeks to improve the lives of people suffering with tinnitus, which affects 50 million US adults, including about 240,000 in the Phoenix area, according to the American Tinnitus Association (ATA).

“Tinnitus is now the number one service connected disability among veterans, with a projected $2.75 billion in reimbursements by 2016,” Rohe said. “Yet in 2011, the combined total of all public and private funding in the United States for tinnitus research was only about $10 million. This imbalance is unacceptable and not sustainable.”

Rohe offers suitable patients SoundCure Serenade, a handheld tinnitus treatment device with therapeutic sounds.
