SoundBytes, Jericho, NY, has supplied specialized alerting devices for the home of the Llanes family of Bergenfield, NJ, in the September 17 episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”

The popular television show taped an episode featuring the Llanes family from May 4 through May 11, 2006. The family was in need of specialized products since four members of the family are blind and one is deaf. SoundBytes’ affiliate company, independent living aids Inc, supplied products as well.

“We were contacted out of the blue through our affiliate company, independent living aids Inc, who had supplied the show in a past episode [Season 2, Episode 21: The Dolan family] and we were eager to participate,” says Michael Abramowitz, managing director of SoundBytes. “We are very excited to be a part of such a celebrated program and hope that our small role will make a big difference in the lives of the family that uses our products.”

The company supplied three alerting devices for the Llanes family. The first device, a portable vibrating alarm clock made by Krown Manufacturing Inc, is small and has a built-in vibration so not to disturb others when the alarm goes off. The other two products were a Silent Call smoke detector and Shake Up receiver with vibration, and the Kidde Talking Carbon Monoxide Detector and Smoke Alarm with Strobe, meant for hard of hearing individuals.
