Listen Technologies, Bluffdale, Utah, held a March 30, 2015 press conference to announce the expansion of its ListenIR product line with the new LT-84 ListenIR Transmitter-Radiator and LA-141 ListenIR Extended-Radiator, as well as the new iDSP IR Receiver. In creating these new IR products, the company reports, it considered all aspects of how the product would be used, focusing on the user experience, ease of dispensing, inventory management, and battery management at a venue—all based on input from consultants, system integrators, venue owners, and end users. Together, the company believes, these offerings represent good coverage and cost-effective solutions for assistive listening, language interpretation, and other wireless audio applications.
Listen Technologies’ LT-84 ListenIR Transmitter-Radiator
According to Listen Technologies co-founder Russ Gentner, the company’s new LT-84 ListenIR Transmitter-Radiator provides complete, gapless coverage in a variety of venue sizes. A single LT-84 unit covers an area up to 30,000 square feet (2700 sq. m), said Gentner, and features delay compensation. It is a two-channel transmitter-radiator with up to four frequencies (2.3 MHz, 2.8 MHz, 3.3 MHz, or 3.8 MHz), designed to eliminate the need to purchase additional transmitter-radiators. The LT-84 is said to be simple to install (with the included mounting hardware and legislative compliance kit), and was designed to blend in with any environment. Up to four LA-141 Extended-Radiators can be added to the LT-84 for additional coverage.

“IR technology has gotten a bad rap because the signal drops out if you’re not facing the infrared light,” said Gentner during the Listen Technologies press conference. “But it’s getting better, and the new ListenIR products break new ground.”
Listen Technologies has also expanded its iDSP (Intelligent Digital Signal Processing) offerings with a new IR version, which joins the company’s previously introduced iDSP RF 72 MHz receivers. The iDSP IR receiver features an integrated neck loop/lanyard for end users, streamlined dispensing, and environmentally friendly advanced battery technology—in a small, lightweight device.

The company reports that the iDSP IR Receiver offers precise clarity with 20 dB less hiss. The integrated neck loop/lanyard is intended to improve the listening experience for people who have hearing aids and cochlear implants. iDSP IR receivers are very small, making them easier for venues to store, charge, and distribute, and for end users to wear and operate. The iDSP IR receivers use lithium-ion battery technology with battery management, eliminating the cost and hassle of traditional AA alkaline batteries.
For venues, the benefits of iDSP IR receivers include streamlining the care and management process—iDSP IR is easier to care for, store, and distribute. Gentner emphasized during the press conference that, since the iDSP IR receiver comes with an integrated neck loop/lanyard (making it compliant with the legislative requirement to provide neck loops for hearing aids with telecoils), the complication and guesswork are taken out of achieving legislative compliance.
