A letter from a third-grader in Colorado with a bone-anchored hearing aid inspired Congressman Joe Neguse to introduce HR 5485—a bill known as “Ally’s Act”—in the House of Representatives, according to an article on the 9 News website.

The bill, among other things, would help defray the cost of bone-anchored hearing aids and cochlear implants, upgrades every 5 years, as well as surgeries and related doctor’s appointments, according to the article.

Ally Tumblin, the now 10-year-old girl who wrote the letter, has microtia ad aural atresia. She was born without a right ear and ear canal, rendering her deaf. Congressman David McKinley of West Virginia, reportedly the only member of Congress with a cochlear implant, co-sponsored the bill.
